So open Terminal and paste this:
ps aux | grep -i shotscribus
If anything comes back. Even one line (it’s) running. And it shouldn’t be.
Now go to System Settings > General > Login Items. Scroll through. Look for “Updater”, “Helper”, “SyncAgent”.
Names that sound harmless but aren’t. Shotscribus loves those disguises.
Next: check ~/Library/LaunchAgents and ~/Library/LaunchDaemons.
Run ls ~/Library/LaunchAgents | grep -i shotscribus
Then do the same for LaunchDaemons.
Found a plist? Don’t double-click it. Don’t try to “fix” it.

How to Actually Kill ShotScribus on Mac

Then ~/Downloads. Search each one with the ‘Kind’ filter set to Application. Sort by date modified.
ShotScribus usually shows up near the top (it’s) loud and recent.
Right-click the main app. Click Show Package Contents. Look inside.
See ShotScribus Helper? SSBrowserExt? Those aren’t optional extras. They’re part of the same mess.
Delete them all (not) just the main app.
Now go deeper. Open Finder again. Press Cmd+Shift+G.
Paste this:
~/Library/Application Support/ShotScribus
Delete that folder.
Then paste these two:
~/Library/Caches/com.shotscribus.*
~/Library/Preferences/com.shotscribus.*.plist
Yes. The * means wildcard. Use Terminal if Finder won’t match it (I’ll show you how if you ask).
Browser extensions? Don’t trust “Disable”. In Safari: Safari > Settings > Extensions → click Uninstall.
Chrome: Settings > Extensions > Details → scroll down → Remove. Firefox: Add-ons & Themes > Extensions → click the three dots → Remove.
That’s how you actually uninstall ShotScribus. Not just hide it. Not just disable it. Remove ShotScribus Applications and Associated Files.
All of them.

Kill the Ghost Processes
You think you uninstalled ShotScribus.
But it’s still breathing.
LaunchAgents run when you log in. LaunchDaemons run even when no one’s logged in. Both can restart ShotScribus without your say-so.
Open Terminal. Paste this:
launchctl list | grep -i shotscribus
Found something? Good. Now unload it:
launchctl bootout gui/$(id -u) /path/to/plist
Then delete the file:
rm /path/to/plist
Don’t just guess the path. Use ls ~/Library/LaunchAgents | grep -i shotscribus first. (Yes, that’s a pro tip.)
Now check cron:

crontab -l | grep -i shotscribus
If it shows up, do not run crontab -e blindly. Edit only the line you see. Delete just that line.
Save. Exit.
Also look in ~/Library/Scripts and ~/Library/Workflows. Open Automator. Check triggers (especially) “folder actions” or “calendar alerts.”

Adware Hunt: Scan, Reset, Verify
I scan for hidden adware every time a Mac starts acting weird. Not just slow (weird.) Pop-ups in Safari when you’re not even browsing. Chrome tabs opening on their own.
That one extension you swear you deleted? Still there.
Malwarebytes for Mac catches what Apple’s built-in tools miss. It finds ad-supported junk hiding in login items or browser helpers. ESET Online Scanner runs without install and nails drive-by malware that slips past real-time tools.
They overlap. But not enough to skip either. (Yes, I run both.
Yes, it takes 12 minutes.)
Reset your browser now. Safari: Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove All. Then go to Extensions and disable anything you didn’t explicitly add.
Chrome: Settings > Reset Settings > Restore settings to their original defaults. Firefox: Help > More Troubleshooting Information > Refresh Firefox.
After reset, reboot. Open Activity Monitor. Sort by CPU.
Look for anything using more than 5% idle. Check Login Items. Visit google.com, github.com, and apple.com.
If any redirect, reload the page and watch the address bar closely.
No pop-ups? No unknown extensions? No startup delays?
No suspicious network activity in Activity Monitor > Network tab?
Spot the Trap Before You Click
Fake PDF converters. “Update required” banners that look real. Torrent site bundles. Cracked software installers.
Misleading “download now” buttons on file-hosting pages.

macOS Gatekeeper says “cannot be verified”. That means Apple hasn’t checked it. “From an unidentified developer”? It’s not signed by Apple or a registered dev.
Neither phrase is vague. Both mean stop and think.
Right-click any .dmg before opening. Choose Show Package Contents. Look for install.sh or setup.command.
If you see either, close it. Now.
Repeat this before every install:
